Outdoor Burning Restriction
The Town of Wells is experiencing extended periods of dry weather, elevated temperatures, and other conditions that have created a significant risk of wildfires. The Maine Forest Service has identified elevated fire danger levels in York County and surrounding regions and outdoor burning during these conditions presents an immediate threat to life, property, and the environment.
Due to these conditions, the Wells Fire Department is placing a restriction on outdoor burning.
This restriction prohibits:
- All outdoor burning of brush, grass, debris, or other natural or synthetic materials.
- The use of burn barrels or similar containers.
- Any campfires intended for aesthetic enjoyment.
This restriction does not prohibit:
- The use of gas, propane, or charcoal grills used for cooking, provided they are always attended and used safely.
- Campgrounds in which campfires are used specifically for cooking so long as they are always attended and used safely.
- Moody Beach Fire Permit
This restriction shall remain in effect until fire conditions improve, and the restrictions are rescinded.
We ask all residents to exercise extreme caution and cooperate fully to help protect our community. Violation of these restrictions may result in penalties as provided by law.
