The 2026 Spring Thaw Road Policy will be lifted on Monday, March 30, 2026. Road postings have been in effect since March 2, 2026, and will be lifted earlier than anticipated.

Lend a hand to help our community, beaches, and the environment at the Wells Beach Cleanup on Saturday, April 18, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.
Volunteers will meet at Wells High School, 200 Sanford Road, at 10:00 am, then head out in groups to clean Wells Harbor, Wells Beach, and Drakes Island Beach. The event is hosted by the Wells Police Department.
Beach lovers of all ages are welcome. Gloves and other supplies will be provided, and if you have a reach extender, feel free to bring it along to help pick up litter. Congdon’s Doughnuts will be supplying free donuts for all particpants.

Online sales for 2026 Multi-Use and Transfer Station permits are now live. Permits may be purchased online from your mobile device, tablet, or computer at any time. Online purchasing allows you to complete your transaction at your convenience and helps reduce wait times at Town Hall during the busiest permit season.

The Multi-Use Permit ($50) combines beach parking and Transfer Station access into one permit.
The Multi-Use Beach Parking Permit is required for parking in Town of Wells metered beach lots from the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through the Monday of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The permit also provides year-round access to the Wells Transfer Station.
The Veteran Multi-Use Permit ($45) is for eligible resident/taxpaying veterans. The veteran must be listed on the vehicle registration and provide proof of veteran status at purchase.

A standalone Transfer Station Permit ($5) is also available for purchase.
2025 permits will continue to be accepted at the Transfer Station through the end of January. A grace period is in effect to allow adequate time to purchase 2026 permits.
Permits are not transferable and must be affixed to the inside of the driver’s side windshield within four inches of the bottom edge.
Mooring holders with boats located on the eastern side of the harbor who wish to park without using lot meters must purchase a Mooring Holder Permit ($50). Limit: One permit per Mooring Holder Agreement
This permit allows parking in the Eastern Shore Lot in any available space. There are ten designated spaces for Mooring Holder permits. Permits may be purchased in person, online, or by mail.

Reminder- Seasonal dog leash rules change September 16th. Below is a refresher on the the year round leash rules for all public beaches, to include Wells Beach, Crescent Beach and Drakes Island Beach.
According to the Town Ordinance for Dogs at Large, "any dog leaving the property of its owner or custodian must be on a leash of suitable strength or must be under the supervision and verbal control of its master."
Please note: These restrictions do not apply to dogs on the property of their owner or on another property with the owner's permission, Seeing Eye dogs or other dogs assisting an individual with a disability or working police dogs.
