2026 Spring Thaw Road Policy to be Lifted Monday, March 30, 2026
The 2026 Spring Thaw Road Policy will be lifted on Monday, March 30, 2026. Road postings have been in effect since March 2, 2026, and will be lifted earlier than anticipated. A list of roads with posted weight restrictions (prohibiting heavy loads over 23,000 lbs gross registered weight) can be found here.
Annual Beach Clean Up To Be Held On April 18
Lend a hand to help our community, beaches, and the environment at the Wells Beach Cleanup on Saturday, April 18, 2026, starting at 10:00 am.Volunteers will meet at Wells High School, 200 Sanford Road, at 10:00 am, then head out in groups to clean Wells Harbor, Wells Beach, and Drakes Island Beach. The event is hosted by the Wells Police Department.Beach lovers of all ages are welcome. Gloves and other supplies will be provided, and if you have a reach extender, feel free to bring it along to help pick up litter. Congdon’s Doughnuts will be supplying free donuts for all particpants. To RSVP, email Saundra at beachcleanup@yahoo.com with your name and the number of people in your group.
Online Sales Now Available for 2026 Multi-Use and Transfer Station Permits
Online sales for 2026 Multi-Use and Transfer Station permits are now live. Permits may be purchased online from your mobile device, tablet, or computer at any time. Seasonal Dog Leash Rules
Reminder- Seasonal dog leash rules change September 16th. Below is a refresher on the the year round leash rules for all public beaches, to include Wells Beach, Crescent Beach and Drakes Island Beach.Between April 1 and June 15, dogs are allowed on the beach at all times but MUST be on a leash and under the charge of a responsible personBetween June 16 and September 15, dogs are NOT permitted on the beach from 8am to 6pm. Before 8am and after 6pm, dogs are allowed on the beaches but MUST be on a leash and under the charge of a responsible person.Between September 16 and March 31, dogs are permitted on the beach at all times. The control of dogs is enforced by the Dog at Large Town Ordinance which is written based off of the Maine State Law.According to the Town Ordinance for Dogs at Large, "any dog leaving the property of its owner or custodian must be on a leash of suitable strength or must be under the supervision and verbal control of its master."Please be aware, Harbor Park is NOT considered a beach and the rule for dogs is enforced as the Dog at Large Town Ordinance, above.Please note: These restrictions do not apply to dogs on the property of their owner or on another property with the owner's permission, Seeing Eye dogs or other dogs assisting an individual with a disability or working police dogs.Additional information regarding animal control can be found here.

Before You Start
Have the following information ready:
- Parcel ID number exactly as shown on your tax bill
- Last name as shown on the tax bill
- Vehicle registration for the vehicle receiving the permit
- Registered owner information and relationship to driver
- Credit card for payment

Multi-Use Permit
The Multi-Use Permit ($50) combines beach parking and Transfer Station access into one permit.
The Multi-Use Beach Parking Permit is required for parking in Town of Wells metered beach lots from the Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend through the Monday of Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The permit also provides year-round access to the Wells Transfer Station.
Eligibility:
- Available to residents and taxpaying property owners with current tax payments.
- Residents must have a tax bill in their name or, if renting, provide a vehicle registration showing excise tax paid to Wells.
