Public Safety Dispatchers serve the police, fire, and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in Wells and work under the command of the Wells Police Department. The following qualifications are sought in dispatcher candidates:
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent clerical and organizational skills
- Knowledge of computers
- Ability to multitask
- Ability to work under stress
- Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays
Additional Preemployment Requirements
Prior experience with dispatching or in public safety is preferred but not required. All candidates will need to complete and pass a Criti-call test, which mimics the same skill set a dispatcher uses during the shift. The successful candidate is required to pass an extensive background check which includes a polygraph exam and a psychological test.
