FEMA will be conducting a nationwide test of the cell phone emergency alerting system on October 4th, 2023 between 2:20 pm and 2:50 pm EST.
The purpose of the test is to assess the effectiveness of FEMA's Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alerts. All cell phones will receive the message only once.
The following can be expected from the nationwide test:
Beginning at approximately 2:20 p.m., cell towers will broadcast the test for approximately 30 minutes.
During this time, WEA-compatible wireless phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA, should be capable of receiving the test message.
