[ARCHIVED] Storm Aftermath and Recovery Efforts

Storm Aftermath

A Word From the Wells Town Manager

Dear Wells Residents,

I hope this message finds you safe and secure in the aftermath of the unprecedented storm that has impacted our community. As your Town Manager, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude for your cooperation, support and resilience during this challenging time.

Our town has faced historic coastal damage due to astronomic high tides, resulting in widespread challenges. I want to assure you that our dedicated Public Works crews are working tirelessly around the clock to clear debris and restore our roads to drivable conditions. Their commitment to this effort is truly commendable, and we appreciate your patience as they navigate through the after effects.

Equally, our Public Safety crews are actively working to identify compromised homes and are in the process of contacting homeowners to ensure everyone's safety. The safety and well-being of our residents remain our top priority.

As we continue to assess the extent of the damage, please stay tuned for further updates. We understand that this is a trying time for many, and we are committed to keeping you informed about the ongoing recovery efforts.

In the meantime, I urge you to remain vigilant and follow any safety guidelines issued by local authorities. If you have specific concerns or require assistance, do not hesitate to reach out to our emergency services. Our dispatch phone number is (207) 646-9354.

Once again, thank you for your cooperation, understanding, and the community spirit you have demonstrated during this challenging period. Together, we will overcome these challenges and emerge stronger as a community.

Thank you,

Mike Pardue
Wells Town Manager

Recovery Effort Updates

In the aftermath of the recent devastating storm that swept through our coastal community, we are immensely grateful for the resilience and understanding displayed by our residents. The challenges posed by coastal flooding have left their mark, but your cooperation, and the dedication of our municipal employees shines through.

Our public officials from Police, Fire, Code Enforcement, Harbor, Communications and Public Works, as well as our Town Manager, were out today to assess the damage as we work to recover and rebuild.

We have the following updates to share:

  • Libby-Scott Paving has been moving equipment to Webhannet Drive this afternoon, January 14th, to begin the clean up process there and will continue tomorrow, January 15th. Stretches of Webhannet Drive will be closed to the public to allow for clean up.
  • There is a focus on light grading of the roads on Drakes Island to return them to save, drivable conditions.
  • US Sight Solutions was out working to clear debris on Ocean Avenue and Atlantic Avenue today.
  • Tomorrow, January 15, 2024, due to reconstruction work and the presence of heavy equipment, we will need to close the entirety of Webhannet Drive.

We appreciate your understanding as we navigate through the recovery efforts. Our dedicated teams are working tirelessly to assess and address the impact Wells.  Your cooperation is instrumental in ensuring a smooth and effective recovery process.

Let's continue to support and uplift each other during these challenging times. You can find more updates and pertinent news by following our Facebook page
